Dr GAVIN D. BARR

MB, BS FRACP, FACG

Gavin Barr graduated from UNSW with MB. BS (Hons1) in 1976. After postgraduate training at Sydney he was admitted as a FRACP in 1983. He spent 2 years in Oxford pursuing further clinical and endoscopic work as well as research into inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

He then returned to Australia in 1984 and established his Gastroenterology practice, with rooms in Mosman and Macquarie St. He has a vast experience in all aspects of Gastroenterology and Hepatology but his particular interests have been in IBD, interventional endoscopy and functional G-I disorders.

He is a member of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia, is also a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology and is currently fully accredited in endoscopy, colonoscopy and ERCP with The Conjoint Committee for The Recognition of Training in Endoscopy and has an exceptionally low complication rate from all procedures.

He has VMO appointments at The Mater, North Shore Private and Concord hospitals.

Gavin is well known for his ready availability and prompt communication with GPs. He has a commonsense but thorough approach to clinical problems. He particularly focuses on detailed history taking, to not only help achieve a clinical diagnosis but also to rationalise investigations and management strategies.

Dr PETE SANDERS

BA (HONS), MB, BS FRACP

Dr Sanders is a consultant gastroenterologist. He looks after patients who have a wide range of acute and chronic gastroenterological issues, including reflux, coeliac disease, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, along with diseases of the liver.

Dr Sanders is a compassionate physician who is an excellent communicator. He works closely with GPs and specialist colleagues to ensure his patients always receive the highest level of care.

He has presented his research at national and international conferences, and has participated in numerous clinical trials in the field of inflammatory bowel disease. Dr Sanders continues to be actively involved in medical education and teaching.

Dr Sanders completed his specialist training at Royal North Shore Hospital, St Vincent’s Hospital and the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.  He performs colonoscopy and gastroscopy, and is currently a visiting medical officer at North Shore Private Hospital and the Mater Hospital. Dr Sanders is a member of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia.
